Material
This bag is built from 420D nylon with a polyurethane (PU) coating — the same material class used in quality backpacks and travel gear. Nylon was chosen over polyester for three reasons: it is lighter, more flexible, and has better tear resistance at the same denier. The PU coating is what makes it water-resistant — light rain beads off the surface rather than soaking through. The interior lining is a smooth polyester that wipes clean with a damp cloth, important for students who spill coffee or leak pens in their bags. The zippers are YKK or equivalent — we use these because cheap zippers are the number one complaint we hear from buyers, and YKK has a failure rate below 0.1% across millions of units. The straps are nylon webbing with bartack reinforcement at the attachment points, tested to hold 8kg without deformation.

Description
This is the bag you grab when you do not want to think about your bag. It is light enough that you forget you are carrying it until you put it down. The zip closure means your stuff stays inside when you are rushing between classes or squeezing onto a crowded bus. The interior phone pocket keeps your phone from getting buried under notebooks, and the card slot means you do not need to carry a separate wallet. It is not a fashion statement and it does not pretend to be one. It is a practical, well-made daily bag that does its job quietly. The grey color goes with everything, the khaki adds a bit of warmth to casual outfits. Both colors hide dirt well, which matters when you are setting your bag on classroom floors, cafe tables, and bus seats every single day.

Product FAQ

Straight answers for procurement teams

Is this nylon tote actually waterproof or just water-resistant?
Let us be straight with you — it is water-resistant, not fully waterproof. The 420D nylon has a PU coating that causes light rain and accidental spills to bead up and roll off. If you get caught in a 10-minute downpour, your notebooks and laptop will be fine. If you drop it in a puddle or submerge it, water will eventually get through the zipper and seams. For students walking between classes or commuters hopping on and off public transit, this level of protection is more than enough. If you need true waterproof performance (for kayaking, boating, or heavy monsoon use), we recommend our dry-bag style with roll-top closure and welded seams — a different product entirely.
Will a 13-inch laptop and A4 notebooks fit in this bag?
Yes, comfortably. The interior dimensions are 34cm wide x 34cm tall x 12cm deep. A standard 13-inch laptop (30.4cm x 21.2cm) slides in easily with room to spare. A4 notebooks (21cm x 29.7cm) fit standing upright. We have tested it with a 13-inch MacBook, two A4 notebooks, a pencil case, a 500ml water bottle, and a small umbrella — everything fit without straining the zipper. The bag does not have a dedicated padded laptop sleeve, so if you carry a laptop daily, we recommend adding a neoprene sleeve (we can source these as an add-on at $1.20 per unit). For 15-inch laptops, we suggest sizing up to our 38cm version, available at the same MOQ.
How does the 160g weight compare to other student bags?
160g is exceptionally light for a bag this size. To put it in perspective: a typical canvas student tote weighs 350-450g. A standard backpack weighs 600-900g empty. Our nylon tote weighs less than a smartphone (most phones are 180-220g). This matters because students already carry 3-5kg of books and supplies — every gram you save on the bag itself reduces shoulder strain over a full school day. The lightweight construction is possible because nylon has an excellent strength-to-weight ratio — 420D nylon is thin but surprisingly tear-resistant. We have done pull tests where the bag held 8kg of weight without strap deformation or seam failure. The trade-off is that it is not as structured as a canvas bag — it has a soft, slouchy silhouette that some people love and others find too casual.
Can I add a custom logo and what printing works best on nylon?
Nylon takes decoration well, but you need the right method. Screen printing works on nylon but the ink can crack over time because nylon flexes. For the best durability on this bag, we recommend heat transfer vinyl (HTV) — the vinyl is pressed onto the nylon with heat, creating a bond that flexes with the fabric and lasts through hundreds of uses. HTV supports up to 3 colors cleanly. For full-color logos or photographic artwork, UV printing is the way to go — UV-cured inks bond to the nylon surface with excellent wash resistance. Embroidery is also an option if you want a premium textured look, though it adds about $0.50-0.80 per unit. We send a digital mockup within 8 hours and a physical sample with your logo in 5-7 days. Minimum order for custom decoration is 500 pieces, with the option to mix grey and khaki in a single order.
