What is the difference between jacquard knit and printed fabric?
This is the most important thing to understand about this bag. Jacquard weaving is a completely different process from printing. With printed fabric, the pattern is applied to the surface of the fabric using ink — screen print, heat transfer, digital print, whatever method. The ink sits on top of the fibers and can fade, crack, or peel over time, especially with washing and abrasion. With jacquard weaving, the pattern is built into the fabric itself during the weaving process. Different colored yarns are woven together to create the design — the pattern is literally part of the fabric structure, not on top of it. This means the pattern will never fade, crack, or peel, no matter how many times you wash it or how much you use it. The pattern is visible on both sides of the fabric (though it may be reversed on the back), and it has a textured, raised feel that printed fabric cannot replicate. The tradeoff is that jacquard weaving is more expensive than printing, and the design is limited to what can be achieved with colored yarns — photographic gradients and fine detail are not possible, but bold geometric patterns, logos, and repeating motifs work beautifully. For a gift bag that needs to look premium and last a long time, jacquard is worth the extra cost. For a disposable promotional bag, printed fabric is more economical.
Can I create a custom jacquard pattern for my brand?
Yes, but there are some important limitations to understand. Custom jacquard patterns require a minimum order of 1000 pieces and a one-time design/setup fee of $300-500, depending on pattern complexity. The process works like this: you provide your artwork (we recommend vector format — AI, EPS, or SVG), our weaving technician converts it into a jacquard pattern file (this involves simplifying the design to a limited color palette — typically 2-4 colors — and adjusting the pattern to work with the loom's capabilities), we send you a digital simulation of how the pattern will look woven, you approve or request revisions, then we produce a physical woven sample (a small swatch, not a full bag) in 7-10 days. Once you approve the swatch, we weave the full fabric run and produce the bags. Important limitations: jacquard patterns work best with bold, simple designs — logos, geometric shapes, repeating patterns, text in block fonts. Photographic images, fine gradients, and tiny details do not translate well to jacquard weaving. The color palette is limited to 2-4 colors per pattern (more colors = more expensive setup and higher per-unit cost). If your design is too complex for jacquard, we may recommend a printed alternative instead. For orders below 1000 pieces, we recommend choosing from our 4+ stock jacquard patterns — they are proven sellers and require no setup fee.
How durable is polyester knit compared to cotton or canvas?
