Material
This bag is woven from a 70/30 blend of jute and linen — two of the most sustainable natural fibers on the planet. Jute (from the Corchorus plant) gives the bag its structure, durability, and that characteristic coarse, earthy texture. Linen (from the flax plant) softens the hand feel, adds a subtle sheen, and makes the fabric more breathable and comfortable against skin. The 70/30 ratio is the sweet spot — 100% jute is too rough and scratchy, 100% linen is too expensive and lacks the rustic texture that makes these bags appealing. The fabric is left in its natural unbleached state — no chemical bleaching, no synthetic dyes, no water-repellent coatings. This means the bag has a warm, natural tan color with subtle variations in tone, which is part of its charm. The handles are thick cotton rope, and the closure is a solid hardwood toggle. Every component is natural, biodegradable, and compostable.

Description
There is something honest about a jute bag. It does not pretend to be leather, it does not try to look expensive, it does not have any gimmicks. It is just a simple, well-made bag from natural fibers, and that is exactly why it works. The 70/30 jute-linen blend gives it a texture that synthetic bags cannot replicate — you can see and feel the individual fibers, the natural color variations, the slight imperfections that come from working with a natural material. The cotton rope handles feel good in your hand, and the wooden toggle adds a small, thoughtful detail that elevates the bag above a plain sack. At 23x17x11cm, it is the perfect size for gift packaging — it fits a bottle of wine, a set of artisanal soaps, a coffee sampler, or a curated collection of small gifts. It is also popular for wedding favors, boutique retail packaging, and eco-conscious brand promotions. The natural aesthetic pairs beautifully with organic, artisanal, and sustainable branding. When your customer receives a product in one of these bags, they immediately perceive it as thoughtful, premium, and environmentally responsible — and they will reuse the bag long after the original gift is gone.

Product FAQ

Straight answers for procurement teams

Is this jute linen bag really biodegradable?
Yes, completely. This bag is made from 70% jute and 30% linen — both are 100% natural plant fibers. Jute comes from the Corchorus plant, linen comes from the flax plant. There are no synthetic fibers, no plastic coatings, no polyester linings, and no chemical treatments in the standard version. When disposed of in a composting environment, the bag will break down completely within 3-6 months — faster than most food waste. Even in a landfill (which is not ideal, but is the reality for most discarded packaging), the natural fibers will decompose within 1-2 years, compared to 200+ years for a plastic bag and 50+ years for a polyester tote. The cotton rope handles and wooden toggle are also natural materials. If you need certification for your sustainability claims, we can provide a material composition certificate and biodegradability test report from a third-party lab. Note: if you add a waterproof coating or polyester lining for customization, those additions will not be biodegradable — we always disclose this clearly.
Which print method works best on jute linen fabric?
It depends on your design and quantity. We offer three print methods, each with different strengths. Screen printing is the most durable and cost-effective for simple designs with 1-3 solid colors — the ink penetrates the jute fibers and lasts for hundreds of uses. It is the best choice for logos, text, and bold graphics at 500+ piece quantities. Heat transfer vinyl (HTV) works well for multi-color designs and small text — the vinyl is cut to shape and heat-pressed onto the fabric, creating a crisp, vibrant print. It is slightly less durable than screen print on rough jute texture (the vinyl can peel at edges over time), but it allows for photographic and gradient designs that screen print cannot do. UV printing is the newest option — UV-cured ink is printed directly onto the fabric and cured with ultraviolet light. It produces the sharpest detail and most vibrant colors, works on the rough jute texture better than HTV, and is durable. However, it is the most expensive per unit and best suited for premium gift packaging or small-batch luxury brands. For most clients ordering 500-2000 pieces with a simple logo, screen printing is the best value. For multi-color photographic designs, we recommend UV printing. We are happy to advise based on your specific artwork — send us your design and we will recommend the best method.
Can jute linen bags be used for food or grocery items?
Yes, with some caveats. Jute and linen are natural, food-safe fibers — they do not contain harmful chemicals in their raw, unbleached state. Many of our clients use these bags for packaging gourmet food items, coffee beans, tea, spices, baked goods, and artisanal products. The natural, rustic aesthetic pairs beautifully with organic and artisanal food branding. However, there are a few things to consider. First, jute is a relatively rough fiber — it can shed small fibers, especially when new. For direct food contact (like loose grains or unwrapped baked goods), we recommend adding a thin food-grade cotton lining or using a food-safe paper liner inside the bag. For packaged food items (boxed, wrapped, or in their own packaging), the raw jute interior is perfectly fine. Second, jute is not water-resistant — if the bag gets wet, moisture can transfer to the contents. For food items that need to stay dry, we recommend adding a thin waterproof lining (PE or PLA) or advising customers to keep the bag dry. Third, for food-grade certification requirements (FDA, EU food contact materials), we can provide bags made with food-grade certified jute and linen, and provide the relevant test reports. Let us know your specific food application and we will recommend the right configuration.
How does the wooden toggle closure work and is it durable?
The wooden toggle closure is simple and effective — a small wooden button (about 2cm in diameter) is attached to one side of the bag opening with natural twine, and a loop of the same twine is on the other side. To close, you pass the toggle through the loop and it catches, holding the bag closed. To open, you simply pull the toggle back through the loop. It is a traditional closure method that has been used on natural fiber bags for centuries. In terms of durability, the wooden toggle itself is essentially indestructible — it is a solid piece of hardwood (usually beech or birch) that will not break under normal use. The twine attachment is the potential weak point, but we use thick, waxed cotton twine with multiple knots at the attachment point, so it will not pull through the fabric. In our testing, the toggle closure survives thousands of open/close cycles without failure. The only maintenance tip is to occasionally check that the twine knots are tight — if they loosen over years of use, you can simply re-tie them. For clients who prefer a more modern closure, we can also offer magnetic snaps, drawstring closures, or no closure at all (open top). But the wooden toggle is the most popular option for this bag because it adds to the natural, artisanal aesthetic and is fully biodegradable.
